General PTA Meeting

(And Bingo for Books Event!)

Hello Green Gables PTA Members,

Join us for BINGO FOR BOOKS, an exciting new community event, on Thursday, January 30 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. During this event we will also briefly conduct our January General Membership PTA Meeting somewhere between Bingo rounds! The focus of the evening is family fun, but we do need to address a few PTA matters. Please see below for more information about Bingo for Books and the General Membership meeting.

The Green Gables PTA presents our first ever BINGO for Books family event. All are welcome! Come enjoy an evening with friends eating pizza, playing Bingo, and having all kinds of fun! Winners of each BINGO round get to select a book from popular titles. The PTA will briefly update families on upcoming events and opportunities.

What: Play Bingo, win books! It’s just that simple!

DATE: Thursday, January 30, 6:00-8:00 PM (Friday, January 31 is a no school day, so come kick off the long weekend with us!)

FOOD: The PTA will provide complimentary pizza, fruit and drinks

We are in search of friendly faces to help make this event a hit. You can sign up for time slots as short as 30 minutes and then enjoy the rest of the event with your family.

We have a number of important matters to briefly discuss:

1. The creation of a Nominating Committee for the 2020/2021 PTA Executive Board Positions. The purpose of the Nominating Committee is to seek out and recommend individuals for the four executive board positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. These four positions will be voted on at the March General Membership PTA meeting (March 25. 2020.)

Additional PTA Board positions are appointed positions. A description of all Board Positions can be found HERE .

2. The PTA has had a surplus of money that has been accruing in recent years. The Board has discussed this surplus and has reached out to Principal Cross to discuss how the PTA could use these funds to best support the school. The administration has suggested the following three items, which need to be voted on and approved by the General Membership:

  • 20 iPads to support classrooms and programming
  • A Cart on Wheels (“COW”) for banking and charging the iPads when not in use.
  • Support materials for paraeducators

3. Brief updates on past events (Walk-a-thon) and upcoming events (1. Next book fair: March 2-6, and 2. The Spring Fundraiser: Friday, May 8) and ways to be involved.
